Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 27 July 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Twelu's mobile applications, websites, and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using Twelu, you agree to these Terms and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal information, including under GDPR and POPIA. That Policy forms part of how we operate the Service alongside these Terms.
1. Who we are
Twelu is a real-time chat platform organised around rooms, hashtags, and communities. Contact details appear on https://www.twelu.com/contact.
2. Eligibility and accounts
2.1 You must meet the minimum age required in your jurisdiction and have legal capacity to agree to these Terms. Where local law requires parental or guardian consent, that consent must be in place.
2.2 You are responsible for your account credentials and for activity under your account. Keep your login details confidential and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use.
2.3 Provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date. We may require age verification or additional checks for safety or legal compliance.
2.4 One person should not create accounts to evade bans, manipulate discovery, or abuse the Service.
3. The Service
3.1 Twelu lets users discover and participate in rooms, follow communities, send messages and media, and use related features we make available over time.
3.2 We may change, suspend, or discontinue features reasonably, including for maintenance, security, legal, or product reasons. We do not guarantee that any particular feature will remain available forever.
3.3 Beta or experimental features may be less reliable and may change or end without notice.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, exploit, or harm others;
- post illegal, fraudulent, or infringing content;
- share sexual content involving minors, or otherwise violate child-safety laws;
- impersonate people, brands, or organisations in a misleading way;
- spam, flood, scrape, or overload the Service;
- circumvent bans, rate limits, age gates, or safety controls;
- reverse engineer or interfere with the Service except as allowed by mandatory law;
- use bots or automation to manipulate engagement, follows, or presence without our permission;
- collect personal information of others without a lawful basis; or
- use the Service in any way that violates applicable law (including privacy, consumer, export, and sanctions rules).
Room-specific rules may apply in addition to these Terms and the Community Guidelines. Room rules cannot authorise conduct that these Terms forbid.
5. User content
5.1 You retain rights in content you create. You grant Twelu a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for technical delivery), communicate, and display that content as needed to operate, improve, promote, and secure the Service.
5.2 You represent that you have the rights needed to post your content and that it does not violate law or others' rights.
5.3 We may remove or restrict content, or limit distribution, when we reasonably believe it violates these Terms, the Community Guidelines, or law, or creates risk to users or the Service.
5.4 Public rooms and profiles can be visible to other users and, in some cases, to people outside Twelu (for example shared links). Choose carefully what you post.
6. Privacy and data protection
6.1 Our Privacy Policy describes categories of personal information, purposes, legal bases (including GDPR), POPIA-aligned justifications, retention, security, international transfers, and your rights.
6.2 By using the Service, you acknowledge that we will process personal information as described in the Privacy Policy. Where consent is required for a specific processing activity, we will ask for it separately.
6.3 You must not use Twelu to process others' personal information unlawfully (for example doxxing, unlawful monitoring, or unsolicited marketing that breaks anti-spam or privacy law).
7. Moderation, reports, and enforcement
7.1 Room owners and moderators may mute, remove, or restrict users within their rooms according to room tools and policies.
7.2 Twelu may warn, restrict features, suspend, or permanently ban accounts, and may remove content, where reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, protect users, or comply with law. Serious violations may result in immediate action.
7.3 We may preserve information related to investigations, safety events, or legal process as permitted by law and our Privacy Policy.
8. Official and verified accounts
Verification badges and official rooms indicate a status we have reviewed under our policies. They do not mean we endorse all content posted by those accounts, and they are not a guarantee of authenticity in every context.
9. Intellectual property
9.1 Twelu's name, logos, software, design, and branding are owned by us or our licensors. You may not use them without permission except as needed to use the Service.
9.2 If you believe content on Twelu infringes your intellectual property, contact us with enough detail to investigate. We may remove content and, for repeat infringement, restrict accounts where appropriate.
10. Third-party services and stores
The Service may link to or integrate third-party services (sign-in providers, maps, sports data, app stores, and similar). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Your download or purchase through Google Play, the Apple App Store, or Huawei AppGallery is also subject to that store's terms.
11. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure operation, or that content posted by users will be accurate or appropriate for you. Consumer rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law remain unaffected.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Twelu and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our aggregate liability for claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) GBP 50, except where mandatory law requires otherwise (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or other non-excludable liability).
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Twelu harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your misuse of the Service, or your breach of these Terms, except to the extent caused by our own wrongful conduct.
14. Suspension and termination
14.1 You may stop using Twelu at any time and may request account deletion subject to the Privacy Policy and legal retention needs.
14.2 We may suspend or end access where reasonably necessary to protect the Service, users, or third parties, or to comply with law. We will provide notice where required and practical.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate. If you continue using the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms, except where mandatory law requires a different method of acceptance.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory local consumer protections in your country of residence provide otherwise (including protections that may apply to South African or EU/UK consumers).
Courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting any mandatory right you have to bring proceedings in your local courts.
17. General
17.1 If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect.
17.2 Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
17.3 You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them in connection with a reorganisation or transfer of the Service.
17.4 These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Community Guidelines are the entire agreement for the Service, unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.
